Child tragically dies after medical episode at Excelled Montessori School

SAN ANTONIO – A child has tragically succumbed to a fatal medical episode at a Montessori school.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, around 10 a.m. on Friday, a 6-year-old child was found unresponsive in the bathroom of Excelled Montessori School in Boerne.

Employees called for emergency services, which quickly began life-saving measures, and rushed her to the hospital in critical condition.

Tragically, she succumbed to the episode and was pronounced dead at University Hospital.

Investigators do not believe that the child’s death was the result of any actions of the school or its staff, believing her death to be related to a possibly chronic medical condition.

From what we’re gathering right now, we don’t have any indication at this point that there’s any wrongdoing on the part of the school, said Sheriff Salazar. “Our understanding right now is that this little girl had some underlying health conditions, possibly of a chronic nature, that may have contributed.

This comes after a teacher and a small child were killed when a nearby driver suffered a medical episode, with that vehicle then fatally colliding into the two in December of last year.

At this point, what’s been estimated to us is that two to five minutes she was in the bathroom,” said Salazar. “And you know, all indications are that they reacted the way they were supposed to.

ExcellED Montessori Plus released a statement on the tragedy, extending its condolences to the family.

We are heartbroken by the passing of a child who was attending our summer program this week” said ExcellED Montessori Plus. “The child experienced a medical emergency in the classroom, and our trained staff responded immediately, administering CPR and emergency care until first responders arrived.

Despite all efforts, the child sadly did not survive.

Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details. We are aware that the child had a pre-existing medical condition, and we are cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities.
